A practical example: A unified SCADA system is to replace various distibuted SCADA systems. A central engineering tool is usually required for all users, irrespective of which products are used in the automation and management level. All engineers involved in the project should be able to work with one and the same tool – for the sake of simplicity.
The advantage: Projects can be configured and put into operation without knowledge of the manufacturer-specific programming software (s). And this both locally on the embedded Web-Server of the PLC as well as centrally in the control system.

Especially in the automation of infrastructure, the web technology has always been ahead! Networking over large distances as well as integration into standard IT networks are predestined for the use of web-based concepts. SpiderControlTM can be easily integrated into existing system landscapes and adapted to a uniform design and maintenance concept. The largest project realized in this area with SpiderControlTM is the control system of SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) LSS-CH.
The new Swiss-wide control system replaces various regional control systems.
In this project, SBB took a very innovative approach to the realization of the project. A central engineering tool was required for all users, irrespective of which products are used in the automation and management level. All engineers, whether internal employees or external partners, do the complete engineering with the same tool without having to worry about the products of the automation or management level. A huge advantage for all users: Complete systems can be configured and put into operation without knowledge of the manufacturer-specific programming software (s), both locally on the embedded Web-Server of the PLC and centrally in the control system.
The system includes the following tasks:
- Automation infrastructure (railway stations, tunnels)
- All PLCs to SBB network (Difonet)
- Central PLC software and HMI repository
- Zero Engineering HMI
- Central or local programming
- Automatic synchronization of local changes
- Automatic deployment from the repository to PLC
- Uniform programming of three different manufacturers (SAIA, Siemens, Wago)
SpiderControlTM is able to fill the interface between automation and IT level: The HMIs have been integrated directly on all PLCs of the different manufacturers, so that they are presented uniformly to the control system. SpiderControlTM components are also used to ensure synchronization with centralized data management and the deployment of logic and HMI programming.
